Spring: The Season That Saved Us
Your time. Your presence. Your connection. One small offline moment at a time.
I used to hate spring as a kid.
It was muddy. My allergies kicked in. The snow was gone, but it was still cold. Too warm for sledding, too wet for baseball, and too unpredictable to count on. It felt like the season you just had to survive to get to summer.
But as an adult, I love it.
Because now, I see it for what it really is: a fresh start.
After a long Pennsylvania winter of gray skys and heavy coats, spring shows up like an exhale. The sun is finally out, the windows crack open, the air smells different. And something inside starts to thaw, too.
Spring has a way of making us look around and ask: Is this the life I want to keep living?
It’s the season that reminds us to pause. To notice where we’ve drifted….and gives us a chance to plant new habits that grow into a more intentional, more connected life.
That Modern Feeling…
If you’re anything like me, you’ve been feeling it…
You’re tired of watching your kids laugh and play… while you feel stuck behind a screen.
You’re tired of snapping at them for asking questions—then drowning in guilt when the house goes quiet.
You’re tired of ending the day overstimulated, disconnected, and wondering where the time went.
Because deep down, a part of you remembers what it used to feel like to be a kid before screens: The daily unstructured time…endless imagination…real connection.
And you want that for them. You want it again for you, too.
That feeling you have? That’s your inner spring waking up. The part of you that knows it’s time to try something different.
But in a world suffocating with screentime, change feels hard. So we start small. We plant something new.
Spring is the Perfect Time…
Spring is the perfect teacher.
It doesn’t rush. It doesn’t overwhelm. It just starts—with one small seed.
So this spring, let’s plant a few of our own:
Leave your phone inside and follow your kids outside.
Say yes to tag. Yes to sidewalk chalk. Yes to the mess.
Say no to one more scroll. One more email. One more "just a second."
Walk slower. Laugh louder. Notice what’s blooming—out there and in them.
When we’re overwhelmed with digital habits and don’t know where to start…start small.
Just Start…
Starting today, remind yourself…every intentional offline moment is a seed. And what you water? That’s what grows.
You don’t need a perfect plan to start. You don’t need to change everything overnight.
You just need to start.
Let this be the season your family grows back together.
